Gideon's Acres Learning Center
Welcome to Ms. Kim’s Pre – K Classroom
Welcome to school letter
Dear Parents,
Welcome to Gideon’s Acres Learning Center and our three & four-year-old program. My
name is Kimberly Ann Edwards and my assistant will be Rhonda Roberts. We are thrilled
to have the opportunity to be teaching your children this year. We are planning many
wonderful and exciting activities for your child, and we hope you all enjoy the year.
There are a couple of things we thought you might want to know before you and your child
come for orientation on September 17 and 18. You should have received a supply list
detailing supplies necessary for the upcoming school year. We will be collecting those
supplies tonight. If you have any questions on the list please talk to us. The children
enrolled in the Early Childhood program start their day at 8:15 am. Rhonda or I will meet
you and your child at the front door of the building, you will be asked to tell your child
goodbye at this time. To drop off your child you should park to the left of the building.
Please wait at front door and we will bring the children to you for dismissal. We are asking
for your cooperation in promptness at arrival and dismissal so the process can take place
as efficiently as possible.
You will receive a name tag for your child. Please make sure that your child wears the
name tag for the first month of school. This will help us get to know them.
This year your child will be using a program called The Letter People. The Letter People
is a language arts program that teaches alphabet and phonics. Our religion series this
year is God Made Me. We will also be using Jump start. The students enrolled in the Early
Childhood program will participate in five Enrichment classes GALC offers. Learning at
Library, Science in the Park, Me and Math, Art & Dance, and Sign Laugage.
Each week you will get a copy of the daily schedule planner. Showing you our
structured activities: circle time, music time, story time, snack time, nap time; as well as
some unstructured activities: center time, outdoor play. Art will usually be done during
center time.
We will be eating a snack daily. I will make sure to post any food allergies. We are asking
that snack be a sharing experience for your child, i.e. we ask that on a rotating basis you
provide snack for the whole class. You will be given a snack calendar so that you will
know when it is your child’s day to bring snack. On your child’s snack day we ask that you
try to send a nutritious snack and juice (apple juice or white grape). Please make sure to
send enough snack for 12 children (I will notify you if that # changes). The day before your
child’s snack day he/she will come home with our Snack Bag. Our snack bag is labeled
“Read & Feed” your child is encouraged to share a book and a show-n-tell with the class
on his/her snack day. Please try and coordinate the snack, book and show-n-tell with the
theme or letter of the week.
Each child is given the opportunity to celebrate their birthday at school. This is usually
done on or close to your child’s birthday. You may send a birthday snack on that day
(brownies, cookie cake and ice cream). Please remember to send any special set-ups we
will need to serve the (plates, bowls, spoons, etc.) Summer birthdays will be celebrated in
May.
Those children enrolled in the full day program will be eating lunch in school. Gideon’s
Acres lunch program (more info will follow). This will include a balance meal based on the
FDA regulations for your child throughout school. Extended day is available for all children.
This is meant as an extension of the time your child normally stays with us, it runs from 3:
15 until 5:45. The cost is $15.00 per day. If you would like your child to participate in this
program he/she must have a mat. Please send the $15.00 fee (in an envelope) along with a
dated, signed note informing us that your child will be staying. Advance notice is not
necessary.
We ask that each of you provide a change of clothes for your child to be kept at school.
It is required that each child be toilet trained; however accidents do happen. There will be
occasions that we will help your child to change if they have an accident. We ask that you
put a full change of clothes (pants, shirt, underwear and socks) in the Ziploc bag provided.
Please label any items that come to school. This includes sweatshirts, coats, lunch kits,
school bags, etc. This will make our job much easier! Thanks!
. If you would like to volunteer there are many times
during the day and year that we can use your help. On a daily basis parents, grandparents,
etc. are always welcome to come in during lunch, 12:00 noon until approximately 12:50
pm. You will be asked to help the children with lunch, help clean up after lunch, monitor
potty time and help them get settled for nap. Volunteers are also need during the year to
help with special events and field trips. Consider volunteering! You would be greatly
appreciated and it means the world to your child.
If your child must take any medication during the school day you must first fill out the
proper form (available from the office). Please follow the guidelines set forth in the GALC
Handbook. Medication may be given directly to me, or to a GALC Staff in the office or
Before Care. Medication should NEVER be sent in the child’s school bag or lunch kit. This
is a health risk to ALL children in the classroom.
During the year we will be sending home all correspondence in your child’s folder. Please
check it daily. If you need to send us anything please use the folder as well. Please return
all correspondence in a timely manner.
We will be participating in both the Scholastic and Troll Book order clubs. Your child will
periodically receive book order forms. These clubs usually offer excellent books at great
rates. If you are interested in purchasing any books please send a check (in the exact
amount of purchase) made out to the appropriate book company along with the order
form. Please consider buying your child some books! Besides the obvious benefit of
buying inexpensive books for your child, the classroom gets points to purchase books,
puzzles and other manipulative!
If you need to speak with me please do not hesitate to call. You may call the office (912)
375-0414 and leave a message or jot me a note in your child’s folder. I will return the call
as soon as possible. Please do not hesitate to talk to either Rhonda or I about any
concerns you have. It is also very helpful if you can keep us informed about any abnormal
happenings in your child’s life (grandparents visiting, parent out of town, death in the
family, move, divorce, etc.). This helps us to give your child the very best care possible.
Again we are looking forward to getting to know you and your child this year. We hope that
the year if filled with many wonderful experiences for you both. Thank you in advance for
sharing your child with us.
They are each a precious gift from God, each bringing their own gifts to our lives and our
classroom. What a great room it will be!
Sincerely,
Kimberly Ann Edwards & Rhonda Roberts
